Equipping Families

Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our commitment is to displaced women and their families. Specifically, women who have experienced homelessness or incarceration. Our program provides employment support and extends into the home by acting as a bridge of relational support between the individual, their children and their children’s caregiver. Our approach is to provide awareness and inspiration to the women and children by facilitating programs and services to provide them with life changing experiences. Our primary commitment is to integrate and socialize the youth by promoting healthy relationships through group family activities. Some of our services include:

  • For the women:

    Interview training and career development

    Life skills training classes

    Financial literacy training

  • For the children:

    Summer Camp

Quarterly trips to museums and theatre to inspire deeper thought and creativity.

Recreational activities with women and children together to promote togetherness and healthy relationship building.

  • For the families:

Promoting resiliency and social connectedness with family workshops lead by counselors.

Relational and community support to caregivers to promote the well-being of the child and caregiver.

Help families establish and build rapport for healthy communication and emotional awareness.

What makes our services unique

The women and youth we serve are inspired to see the world beyond the circumstances of their past. Displaced women are most often challenged with re-engaging in healthy relationships with their children. Our services bridge that gap to lift the burden of this demand immediately following relief from homelessness. We facilitate resources and activities to engage the mothers with their children in a positive and stimulating environment. We have learned that serving the mothers is incomplete if the needs of the children are not met. Therefore, we strive to serve the family unit holistically.

Our objective is to strengthen the emotional and social health of children who have experienced the absence of a parent due to homelessness or incarceration. The absence of a parent can create insecurities; therefore, our programs and services not only promote community but also transparency to share experiences without shame or embarrassment.

Our activities are purposed to bring families together to encourage a sense of togetherness and give them an opportunity to embrace a new perspective, experiences and ideas.

“With the support from our community and donors, we will be able to serve better than ever.”
